  102.        This section lists the subsystems (and their sizes) of the
  103.        IRIS InSight software.

  105.        You can use the software installation instructions in the
  106.        _P_e_r_s_o_n_a_l _S_y_s_t_e_m _A_d_m_i_n_i_s_t_r_a_t_i_o_n _G_u_i_d_e to install this
  107.        product.  If you are installing this software for the first
  108.        time, the default subsystems are installed if you click the
  109.        _I_n_s_t_a_l_l _A_u_t_o_m_a_t_i_c_a_l_l_y button.  To install a different set of
  110.        subsystems, click the _C_u_s_t_o_m_i_z_e _I_n_s_t_a_l_l_a_t_i_o_n button and make
  111.        your new selections.  Then click the _S_t_a_r_t button to launch
  112.        the installation.

  152.        2.3  _I_n_s_t_a_l_l_a_t_i_o_n__M_e_t_h_o_d

  154.        All of the subsystems for IRIS InSight can be installed
  155.        using IRIX.  You do not need to use the miniroot. Refer to
  156.        the _I_R_I_S _S_o_f_t_w_a_r_e _I_n_s_t_a_l_l_a_t_i_o_n _G_u_i_d_e for complete
  157.        installation instructions.

  160.        2.4  _P_r_e_r_e_q_u_i_s_i_t_e_s
  161.  
  162.        Your workstation must be running IRIX 6.2 or greater in
  163.        order to use this release (3.2) of IRIS InSight.
  164.  
  165.        Most products in the IRIS InSight family require that the
  166.        insight_base product be installed. In particular, the
  167.        _i_n_s_i_g_h_t__b_a_s_e._s_w._e_o_e subsystem.
  168.  
  169.        If you install the IRIS InSight viewer (_i_n_s_i_g_h_t._s_w._c_l_i_e_n_t)
  170.        then you must also install _x__e_o_e._s_w._e_o_e, _m_o_t_i_f__e_o_e._s_w._e_o_e,
  171.        _d_m_e_d_i_a__e_o_e._s_w._l_i_b, _c_o_m_p_i_l_e_r__e_o_e._s_w._l_i_b, _c++__e_o_e._s_w._l_i_b, and
  172.        _V_i_e_w_K_i_t__e_o_e._s_w._b_a_s_e for the viewer to function properly.

  174.        If you want to view any of the inline Inventor media objects
  175.        then you must install _i_n_v_e_n_t_o_r__e_o_e._s_w._i_n_v_e_n_t_o_r.  If you want
  176.        to view any of the inline movie objects then you must
  177.        install _e_o_e._s_w._g_f_x.
  178.  
  179.        Many of the aforementioned prerequisites also apply to
  180.        installing the SGIHelp viewer, _i_n_s_i_g_h_t._s_w._s_g_i_h_e_l_p. In
  181.        addition, the SGIHelp viewer requires that _w_e_b_v_i_e_w_e_r._s_w._e_o_e
  182.        be installed.

  200.        If you want to install the online help book
  201.        (_i_n_s_i_g_h_t._b_o_o_k_s._h_e_l_p) for the IRIS InSight viewer then you
  202.        must install the SGIHelp viewer _i_n_s_i_g_h_t._s_w._s_g_i_h_e_l_p along
  203.        with the help.
  204.  
  205.        If you wish to install the SGIHelp XHelp tools then you will
  206.        need to install _i_n_s_t__d_e_v._s_w._b_a_s_e, and _d_e_v._s_w._m_a_k_e (which are
  207.        part of the base Developer bundle), in order to build
  208.        instable images.  If you simply want to build the samples
  209.        without building images then you do not need these
  210.        subsystems.

  213.        2.5  _C_o_m_p_a_t_i_b_i_l_i_t_y
  214.  
  215.        It is possible to mount and access books from a machine
  216.        running a different version of IRIX. In general, to avoid
  217.        any incompatibilities, the client machine should have
  218.        version 3.x of the InSight Viewer (and version 3.x of
  219.        SGIHelp) installed.  In this scenario, the help for certain
  220.        applications may not work properly due to changes in both
  221.        the applications themselves and in the documentation
  222.        (between the different versions of IRIX).

  224.        Japanese books cannot be viewed using a version 2.x InSight
  225.        Viewer and _m_u_s_t be viewed using a version 3.x viewer.
  226.  
  227.        The new (3.2) InSight Viewer and SGIHelp can view all books
  228.        distributed as part of IRIX 6.2, 6.3, 6.4 or 6.5.  The
  229.        opposite may not be true (in general, the 2.x versions of
  230.        InSight cannot read books published for IRIX 6.3, 6.4 and
  231.        6.5).

  236.        Important: Please read this section carefully.  It details
  237.                   installation information specific to the IRIS
  238.                   InSight product.

  240.        You can install IRIS InSight in various configurations:

  270.        The default installation configuration is to install the
  271.        IRIS InSight Viewer and Library on a single system. The
  272.        total size of the viewer (and help book for the viewer) is
  273.        approximately 11 megabytes. Installing additional books
  274.        requires additional disk space.  If you have the disk space,
  275.        this is the ideal configuration since it gives the viewer
  276.        fastest access to the book data.
  277.

  279.        find out the disk space requirements for each book.

  282.        2.6.2  _L_o_c_a_l__C_l_i_e_n_t__w_i_t_h__R_e_m_o_t_e__(_m_o_u_n_t_e_d_)__B_o_o_k_s

  284.        If several machines plan on sharing all the books and help
  285.        files via NFS mounts then this is the configuration of
  286.        choice.
  287.  
  288.        Note:  If you have the IRIS InSight Library (books)
  289.               installed on your disk but wish to mount the books
  290.               from a remote machine, you should remove all the
  291.               current IRIS InSight books (with the IRIX command
  292.               _v_e_r_s_i_o_n_s _r_e_m_o_v_e) from your system and remove any
  293.               remaining files in /_u_s_r/_s_h_a_r_e/_I_n_s_i_g_h_t/_l_i_b_r_a_r_y before
  294.               performing the mount command described below.

  296.        To install the IRIS InSight Viewer and Library on a remote
  297.        server and access the information from a local client
  298.        system, follow these steps:
  299.  
  300.          1.  On the server:

  302.                a.  Install the complete IRIS InSight product image
  303.                    and all books.  See "Creating an InSight Library
  304.                    Server for Clients to Access" in this section
  305.                    for further details.

  350.        If you wish to use the IRIS InSight Viewer and Library from
  351.        the CD-ROM and access the information from a local system,
  352.        follow these steps:

  354.          1.  On the system with the CD-ROM drive, insert the CD
  355.              that contains an IRIS InSight Library (books) into the
  356.              CD-ROM drive.
  357.  
  358.              If the drive is not mounted, use the System Manager to
  359.              mount the drive.  The most common mount point is
  360.              /_C_D_R_O_M.
  361.  
  362.              If the drive is mounted correctly, you should be able
  363.              to change directories to /_C_D_R_O_M and see the directory
  364.              containing the IRIS InSight Library (books) on the CD
  365.              (for example, a directory called "insight"):

  445.        For sites with numerous SGI machines running multiple
  446.        versions of the IRIX operating system, it may be
  447.        advantageous to devote one machine to being an InSight
  448.        Library Server. This server would contain all the books for

  464.        the various IRIX releases, and the clients would simply NFS
  465.        mount the appropriate books and help from that server.

  467.        To create an InSight Library server, start by installing the
  468.        version of InSight and all the books for the oldest OS
  469.        version that any client machine will want to mount. For
  470.        instance, if the server will contain the IRIX 6.5 and 6.4
  471.        books, then install the IRIX 6.4 version of InSight and the
  472.        6.4 books initially.
